Volume Storage Classes
Storage Classes
Plan13 Cloud offers multiple storage classes to meet the performance, durability, and cost requirements of your workloads. Each class is designed around specific I/O patterns—from archival backups to high-performance databases.
All volume types are fully integrated with our compute infrastructure and available across all regions. Pricing is transparent and based on provisioned capacity (€/GiB per month). Choose the class that aligns with your workload characteristics:
- Capacity Optimized – for cost-efficient, infrequently accessed data
- General Purpose – for boot volumes and typical application storage
- Performance Optimized – for IOPS-intensive, latency-sensitive workloads
General Purpose (gp1)
General purpose Enterprise Grade SSD-backed volume with balanced IOPS and throughput for everyday workloads and boot volumes.
Features
- 7K IOPS per 100 GiB
- Bandwidth per 100 GiB: 20,625 MB/s
- Availability: 99,9543%
- Durability: 99,9600%
- Latency-optimized for small-to-medium I/O
Use Cases
- Virtual machine boot disks
- Web servers and app servers
- Development environments
- Medium-sized databases (Postgres, MySQL)
Choose If
- You want a balanced SSD volume for most workloads
- You need consistent IOPS and low latency
- You want good performance at a moderate price
Avoid If
- Your workload requires extremely high IOPS or throughput
- You run high-performance databases or real-time analytics
Latency Optimized (io1)
Performance-optimized SSD storage with replication for critical workloads requiring high IOPS and strong reliability.
Features
- 14K IOPS per 100 GiB
- Bandwidth per 100 GiB: 41,250 MB/s
- Availability: 99,9543%
- Durability: 99,9992%
- Consistent low-latency access
Use Cases
- High-performance databases (Postgres, Cassandra, Elasticsearch)
- Financial or transactional workloads
- Real-time analytics
- Enterprise-grade application clusters
Choose If
- Your workload is sensitive to latency and downtime
- You need fast and consistent response times
- You can’t afford performance degradation during load
Avoid If
- You are storing static or infrequently accessed data
- You’re optimizing purely for cost
Capacity Optimized (st1)
Archival-optimized volume for cost-effective, infrequent access. Ideal for backups and cold data with low IOPS requirements.
Features
- Availability: 99,7260%
- Durability: 99,9992%
- Best price per GiB ratio
- Ideal for sequential access patterns
Use Cases
- Backup storage
- Archive and cold data
- Long-term logs or observability data
- Container image or software repositories
Choose If
- You prioritize low cost per GiB over latency or IOPS
- Your data is accessed rarely and in bulk
- Throughput matters more than response time
Avoid If
- Your workload is sensitive to I/O latency
- You need high performance for small random reads/writes
